Robbinsdale Area Schools is the first Center of Excellence in the GRC Region
NASA Glenn HUNCH Regional mentor Cody Farinacci and Nancy Hall were at Armstrong High School (HS) in Plymouth, MN on Dec 11 to formally present Robbinsdale Area Schools and Armstrong HS teacher Luke Becker with a certificate for being named the 4th HUNCH Center of Excellence (this is from HUNCH schools across the US). However, this is the first school district that is a Center of Excellence among NASA Glenn's HUNCH schools. A HUNCH center of excellence is a unique achievement for school districts which have a proven track record of exceptional work with students and participation within the NASA HUNCH program.
Superintendent Dr. Teri Staloch, Principal Erick Norby and several school board members were present at the ceremony on Dec 11. The local press from CCX news was also present.
In addition, Armstrong had 2 teams who made it as HUNCH Biomedical finalists and will be going to Galveston, TX at the end of January for the Human Research Program Investigators Workshop (HRP IWS) to present their project – IV fluid administration and Mental Health. Luke Becker hadn’t told the 2 teams they were selected and instead the students found out when I told them on stage during the event. You can see the surprise look on all their faces during the video and it was a great ceremony. One side note is that GRC has 3 other teams, from 2 different schools, that will be also going to the HRP IWS conference too as finalists.
